Ups and Downs
This is a design for a large sculptural work I presented to a foundation. The title of the proposed work is " Ups and Downs". It is meant to suggest the opposing moods we all experience. The ever-narrowing and ever-darkening bottom cone under the stairs is in opposition to the the ever expanding and ever lightning top cone at the top plane of the stairs. The stairs suggest that there is movement between these two opposites. The center ring suggests a ground level between these opposites while the vertical disk represents a wall and emphasizes the separation between the two sides. The open cut out door expresses the boundary between the states, a boundary
that is invisible and easy to enter and exit.
